The men and women of the Howard County Police Officers’ Association - Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 21 are proud to endorse Bill McMahon for Sheriff. Our relationship with Bill is unique; as a retired Howard County Police Officer, Bill has been our friend and colleague for more than 35 years.

Still affectionately known to our members as “Chief,” Bill served as the Howard County Police Department’s 10th Chief of Police from 2007 to 2014. During his tenure as Chief, time and again he proved himself an effective leader. Bill oversaw the construction and grand opening of the County’s Public Safety Training Center. In June 2007, Bill shouldered our sorrows and lifted us up after Corporal Scott Wheeler was killed in the line of duty. And, in January 2014, Bill’s leadership suffered its toughest challenge when he led a massive law enforcement response to an active shooter at the Mall in Columbia.

Bill is a proven leader with nearly four decades of law enforcement experience. We’re proud to stand beside our brothers and sisters in the Howard County Sheriff’s Office as we publicly endorse Bill McMahon for Howard County Sheriff.

"I strongly endorse Bill McMahon for re-election as Howard County Sheriff. Sheriff McMahon has been a partner in my administration’s efforts to remove repeat violent criminals from the streets and battle the opioid epidemic. I look forward to working with Sheriff McMahon over the next four years as we continue building a safer Maryland for all our citizens.”

— Larry Hogan, Maryland Governor

“Bill McMahon is precisely the right person to lead the Sheriff’s Office in Howard County. For decades, Bill McMahon has served this community with honor and distinction, and he was there again when Gov. Hogan asked him to lead and restore professionalism to the Sheriff’s Office. He's done a great job thus, and I wholeheartedly endorse Bill McMahon for Howard County Sheriff in 2018.”

— Allan Kittleman, Howard County Executive

“We believe the experience, knowledge, integrity and dedication you have shown, over the past 30 years of your law enforcement career here in Howard County, makes you the right choice and the only choice for the position.”
— Howard County Public Safety Dispatchers Association

Bill is a past Police Chief of Howard County and performed his duties in a very professional manner. This includes a time in which Howard County was suffering from problems with its former Sheriff.

The Republican Party could not have chosen a better person to represent them in the 2018 Maryland Primary for Howard County Sheriff.

— African American Coalition of Howard County

“I can tell you unequivocally that it has been a pleasure for the FOP to deal with Sheriff McMahon. This is a team that can work, and I believe that 100%. It is my pleasure and my members to endorse you as Sheriff for Howard County."
